Converting Your Data (Quicken for Mac)


If you've used other versions of Quicken or other tools to manage your personal finances, you can convert your existing data file to Quicken for Mac compatible files (and in some cases, vice versa).

What files can be converted

  • Quicken for Mac 2007, Essentials, 2015, 2016, and 2017
  • Quicken 2011 for Windows or newer versions.
  • Quicken Interchange Format - QIF files
  • Quicken for Mac products older than 2007 are not supported for conversion; we recommend that you open a new data file in the latest version of Quicken, for stability. For more information, see How and When to Use an Intermediate Version To Convert Older Versions of Quicken.

Before converting your file

  • The conversion of Quicken for Mac to Quicken for Windows Starter Edition is not currently possible. The option to import QXF files, which is necessary for this conversion process, is not available.
  • If you're converting a data file because you've upgraded to the Subscription Release, you will need to make sure that the new version is installed before starting the conversion process. For installation steps, click here Quicken Mac Support Phone Number.
  • Don't delete your old data file until you've reviewed your new data file.
  • It's a good idea to hold on to a backup of your old data file for a while, just in case you need to refer back to it.

CREATE DRAFT BILLS IN SAGES TIMESLIPS

Throughout the years, I have had my clients jump through hoops to get draft bills that look like the actual bill.

The problem is, when they run the draft bills and distribute them for review, the draft often gets sent out without the approval process.

We have tried printing them on colored paper, changing headers or footers, adding one time messages to temporarily indicate they are drafts. Obviously this is a cumbersome task and removing the draft information on all bills often gets missed.

Enter Timeslips 2015 with its new Draft Bill capability. Starting with Sage Timeslips 2015, a draft bill can include watermarks on the bills to indicate they are draft bills. Using the report options, you can customize the watermark information.

Here are your options:

Limit description to four lines
Include watermark
Choose diagonal printing of watermark
Display the date the draft bill was produced. By displaying the date, the draft was run, you will be able to determine the
most recent draft in the case of multiples. Remember, the print date is often different from the bill date.
Display the name of the person who printed the draft


Display the desired draft bill text.

CREATE A DRAFT BILL REPORT

To avoid the constant change of the options when running bills, you might want to make a copy of the Generate Bills report and create one for Draft Bills, choose the options you want and save the Draft Bill Report. Now you do not need to remember to change the settings each time.

WARNING: BECAUSE TIMESLIPS NOW HAS TWO GENERATE BILLS REPORTS, IT REVERTS TO THE LAST ONE RUN IF YOU CHOOSE THE GENERATE BILLS ICON OR BILLS/GENERATE BILLS FROM THE MENU BAR.

You must run the bills as a report—Reports/Billing—choosing the right bill report depending on the stage of your billing. If you do not want to do this, you can skip this section and manually turn on and off the options when you generate bills.

ACCESSING REPORT OPTIONS

You can access these options within the Report Options dialog box.

If you are printing bills from the Generate Bills Report Option you can select Bills; Generate Bills and then click the Options button.
If you are printing bills from the Billing Assistant, you can select Bills; Billing Assistant, select Bills at the bottom of the screen and then click the Options link.
If you are running your Draft Bills from the Draft Bill report you created, these options were already chosen for you and need not be reviewed.

APPROVING DRAFT BILLS

Draft Bills cannot be approved. When you print Draft Bills, you cannot put them in Proof Stage, approve them, or email them. To approve the bills, you will need to exclude watermarks for the bill run. If you made a separate Draft Bill report, run your final bills as a Generate Bills Report.

How to File Your State and Federal Taxes for Free in 2020

If you make less than $69,000 a year, you can find free tax filing options at the IRS Free File webpage.

There are options from TurboTax, H&R Block, TaxSlayer and others.

Each site has its own eligibility requirements, so be sure to find one that will be free for you.

It can take a bit of effort to find the correct option to fit your situation. Try using the IRS lookup tool to find the right one. Most of the options provide tax prep for both federal and state returns.

Best for: People who make less than the income cap and want a convenient and easy way to file online.


If you make more than $69,000 a year and have regular wage income, you may be able to file for free on MyFreeTaxes.com, a service offered by United Way.

MyFreeTaxes offers free federal and state tax prep to filers at all income levels, but it will not work if you need to file Schedule C (like income from driving for Uber), Schedule D (capital gains) or Schedule E forms. You can learn more about the different schedules and types of income here.

This site uses a version of H&R Block’s software. It is free for both federal and state returns.

Best for: People who don’t qualify for Free File but have income only from a standard job and perhaps a bank account, and want to file online.

If you’re in the military, you can use MilTax, a service provided by the Department of Defense that uses a version of H&R Block’s tax software. It is available for free to active-duty service members as well as those in the Guard or Reserves, as well as their families. There are no income or tax form restrictions.
